What do students REALLY get out of undergraduate research experiences?

Opportunities for creativity, consequence-free failure and exploration are few and far between in most undergraduate programs. The move toward research-led education begins to patch this gap, offering undergraduate students experience in the complex, generative world of research. But what do students get out of this exposure? And what are the impacts on their future study and career intentions?
